Just a quick revision of what Michelle taught us last Tuesday, which was mainly made up of new phrases that will be useful during q&a sessions in class.

For the students:

One more time, please.
Noch einmal, bitte.

Slowly, please!
Langsam, bitte!

Please write that!
Schreiben Sie das, bitte.

Please explain that.
Erklären Sie bitte!

I don't understand that.
Das verstehe ich nicht!

I don't know that.
Das weiss ich nicht.

Wait a moment.
Einen Moment, bitte.

How does one pronounce that?
Wie spricht man das aus?

Wie heißt das auf Englisch?
What is that in English?

For the teachers:

Please ask a question/answer.
Fragen/Antworten Sie bitte!

Please read/write/listen/speak.
Lesen/Schreiben/Hören/Sprechen Sie bitte!

Alles klar?

What do you see?
Was sehen Sie?

Hausaufgabe...

For the rest of the class, we learned how to tell other people about our major in German.

I'm a _________.

Was sind sie von Beruf?
Ich bin ________ von Beruf.

What are you studying?
I'm studying _________.

Was studieren Sie?
Ich studiere __________.

Where are you studying?
I'm studying at __________.

Wo studieren Sie?
Ich studiere an der (e.g. Technischen Universität).

Examples of majors of the students taking the same course:

  • Accounting - Rechnungswesen
  • Business - Betriebswirtschaft
  • Economics - Volkswirtschaft
  • Finance - Finanzwesen
  • Humanities and Social Sciences - Humanistische Sozialwissenschaften
  • Biotechnology - Biotechnologie
  • Physics - Physik
  • Mathematics - Mathematik
  • Biology - Biologie
  • Chemical Engineering - Chemieingenieurwesen/verfahrenstechnik
  • Civil Engineering - Bauingenieurwesen
  • Computer Science - Informatik
  • Electrical Engineering - Elektrotechnik

Lehrer | Lehrerin

The majors' names beat me. Learning complex vocabs is definitely not my thing. I wonder how many of my classmates actually spent time to memorize all of them, together with spelling.

Tschüss!
