It's been a while... Goodbye September, hello October, hello midterms щ(ಠ益ಠщ)

I was literally busy until I didn't have time to complete my hausaufgabe given last week (ఠ్ఠ ˓̭ ఠ్ఠ)
I'll compile two classes in one post, hopefully it wouldn't be too long!

We learned how to express time in German! It's not too hard, trust me!

Wie viel Uhr ist es? / Wie spät ist es?
Es ist  nummer  (Uhr).

In German, we look forward in time, towards the next hour. Therefore, 11:30 is half an hour to twelve, and thus halb zwölf. It's hard to tell that it's 11:33 accurately, so we say it's somewhere after 11:30, kurz nach halb zwölf. If it is 10:45, that's a quarter to eleven! That is viertel vor elf. This way of expressing time in words is less formal. 24-hour clock is used for formal use, such as the time announced in airport, train stations... Let's see a few more examples:

It is 11:57am.
Es ist kurz vor zwölf.
Es ist elf Uhr siebenundfünfzig Minuten.

It is 5.15am.
Es ist viertel nach fünf. 
Es ist fünf Uhr fünfzehn Minuten.

It is 1:00pm.
Es ist ein Uhr.
Es ist dreizehn Uhr.

It is 4:27pm.
Es ist kurz vor halb fünf.
Es ist sechzehn Uhr siebenundzwanzig Minuten.
