a new place: day 0 to day 2

It didn't feel long enough since the last post that I am currently in America. I knew I will be here since last summer, but it didn't feel real enough until I got on the plane in Malaysia and went through two transits to arrive in San Francisco. I am alone but virtually not as I knew some people via the Internet. 70 percent of my luggage to the US was packed in HK, and hence the fearless me of hea-ing away at home during my 12-days break. I officially got nervous the day before I left, and it came together with the sadness to leave home.

In the morning after my farewell/mom's early birthday dinner I dropped my baggage at the check-in counters and left the place I call home. Few hours later I arrived my second home HK and after another flight I was in Tokyo for another transit.  I listened and spoke Japanese to the people there, including a conversation with an obasan sitting next to me on plane. It was like a dream. When 12am comes the magic is gone, I almost fully slept through the flight to SF.

Going through the immigration wasn't smooth for me, as there were problems with my SEVIS form, which took me another hour-long wait but luckily the SuperShuttle service I booked online didn't turn me down. I arrived at my apartment at last. Sleeping hasn't been a problem until waking up at 3am. I messaged my sister and called my family. After chatting for a while I was asked to go to sleep and so I did. I slept sometime after the rain stopped. It was about 6 in the morning and I wake up in shock to know it's already 1:30pm. Seeing half a day's light wasted, I immediately head out to settle the transfer of my lease and open a bank account. I met people from my university whom I saw as strangers at the Haneda airport last night, and we had Japanese food at a restaurant. I'll have to find a Chipotle ASAP to save my wallet...

Berkeley Bowl is amazing, it's like a huge warehouse (compared to Giant in M'sia) with so much local produce and other food products in one place! I didn't buy much as I don't know what else is in our kitchen, but I knew I will come again. Fought jetlag and forced myself to wake up at 8am the next morning and hell yeah I know I will be able to wake up tomorrow morning for the orientation.

P.S. Haven't got my camera out since leaving home (not sure why) but I shall kill this shyness and be a shameless tourist today in this new place.
